Weed of the Week: Annual Fleabane

Weed of the Week: Annual Fleabane

This weed, Erigeron annuus, commonly appears in gardens as a low mound of foliage in the spring, growing into 2 – 3 foot tall stems topped by small, white, daisy-liked flowers in the summer. It is a native weed throughout Eastern North America. Fleabane often appears in disturbed areas, so you may see it in vegetable and flower gardens. Many enjoy the small, white flowers and choose to leave it where it appears, but if the plant is crowding out your vegetables or other plants you wish to grow, pull it before it flowers.

If you have a wild-flower area, Erigeron can be a welcomed plant.
