Questions From Greening December Happy Hour

Yikes!

For some reason on the December 1st Happy Hour Zoom didn’t save the chat for me as it normally does when I clicked “Save Chat.” I always promise attendees that if I don’t get to their question before we end at 6 that I’ll respond here. So if you were one of those people, please put your question in Comments here and I’ll answer it.

Technology is often like gardening…you make a plan and then you cope with what really happens!

We had a great time talking about Plant Projects on Friday…from air plants to Narcissus and Amaryllis.

We had questions about Montauk daisies, Hydrangeas and other outdoor plants at the Happy Hour on Friday. Since we didn’t have time to get to them all, and the recording of the “Chat” failed, I hope you’ll ask your question in the comments here!

Hi! I had asked a question re my hibiscus. After it’s summer vacation, I’ve noticed lately that it seems filled with scale on all of its stems, along with some type of insect on its leaves. I have it away from my other houseplants. Should I try to save it? Or just purchase another in the spring. It’s about 5 years old.

    Thanks!

Linda – Scale is the hardest insect to get rid of indoors. If this is a variety of Hibiscus that’s hard to find you might want to keep it, but if it’s a fairly common color, I’d start fresh next year. If you decide to try and save it, spray with insecticidal soap every two weeks.
