Cultivating Gratitude

Cultivating Gratitude

Many people have expressed the wisdom of actively fostering an attitude of gratitude. In pleasant times counting our blessings helps us not to take good fortune for granted. And when circumstances are difficult, seeking things to be thankful for can help balance, or even lift our burdens.

During those periods when we’re just trudging through the same-old-same-old, actively looking for what we’re appreciative of opens our minds, eyes, and hearts to the wonders that surround us even in the most mundane of circumstances.

This week, in honor of Thanksgiving, I asked all the employees I ran into to name something they are thankful for. Note that Dave G. was taking a few days off, so we can guess that he was thankful for being on vacation.

Everyone found it a bit challenging to choose just just one or two things that they are grateful for, but here is what they said:

I’m thankful for…

The cardinals at my bird feeder. (Roberta)

My seven-month old niece. (Chris Stokes)

The gifts of recovery. (Susan)

My friends. (Emily)

Old ideas and new experiences. (D.J.)

Being surrounded by a group of highly motivated people. (Josh)

Family. (Craig)

Good health. (Randy)

My recovery. (Linda)

The beauty of nature. (Christina)

Knowing that there’s always something new to learn and create. (C.L.)

My healthy and happy children. (Heather)

Family. (Keith)

Being able to be part of an environmentally conscious business. (Lily)

My divorce. (Jamie)

The joy of waking to bird songs in the morning. (Diana)

My brothers and sisters. (Elizabeth)

Serenity. (Mary)

Dogs! (Danielle)

To be working with plants every day. (Marsha)

Marcus, of course…and my dog, Maple. (Jocelyn)

Being able to get out of bed in the morning and go to work. (John)

My grandchildren. (Catherine)

Freedom. (Don)

Having a great job. (Chris Dunlap)

Well, at this point I’m just happy to be healthy. (Dave A.)

The opportunity that my son has given me to be a better person. (J.P.)

Positive energy. (Mike)

For my family, big time. (Deron)
