STORE INFORMATION/HISTORY

About Us

Hyannis Country Garden is a family owned, seven acre garden center located on West Main Street in Hyannis. We have been serving the gardening needs of our customers since 1965. Since that time our motto has been “Big enough to serve you, small enough to know you.” Whether you’re a home gardener or professional landscaper, we look forward to helping you cultivate beautiful landscapes.

Mission Statement

Hyannis Country Garden is committed to being a sustainable and profitable green goods business by creating lasting customer relationships, providing education and supporting a local legacy of gardening and community. We strive to exceed our customers’ expectations by providing the best selection and giving accurate information. We are dedicated to helping Cape gardeners to have successful and fulfilling gardening experiences.

Sustainability

Our company believes that organic methods are important to the sustainability of our community. We’re dedicated to the expansion of organic products and to the continuing education of our customers regarding least-toxic landscaping practices. Our wind generator, installed in 2008, now supplies the majority of the garden center’s electrical needs. In an effort to cut down on agricultural refuse, we continue to help our customers recycle their plastic pots and trays. Please stop into the store and ask about our recycling programs.

History

Country Garden was established in 1965 by R.W. Griffith Jr. At that time the business primarily sold fruit and produce along with bedding plants and a small amount of nursery stock in the spring, and was run by Dick and Nancy Griffith.
As Cape Cod’s population grew, Country Garden increased their stock of plants, lawn and garden products.
In 1978 it was decided to discontinue fruit and produce sales and build an attached greenhouse and full-service garden center. Over the years we’ve expanded by adding more greenhouses, covered shopping areas, shade frames and a warehouse/garage facility. We continue to pave walkways and improve all facilities in order to provide our customers with a pleasant, efficient shopping experience.

The original seasonal fruit stand was closer to the road than our current store.

New Old Store

The current building and front greenhouse were built behind the old fruit stand. Notice that the back of the lot, our current nursery section, was still wooded at that time.

This is how our West Main Street location looked in 1946. How times have changed!
