Making Decorations With Winter Greens

Making Decorations With Winter Greens

One of the pleasures at this time of year is using assorted cut evergreens in arrangements. By sticking the freshly cut ends of these greens into a block of water-filled Oasis floral foam, these compositions will last through the holidays and beyond. Use floral foam to hold greens in window boxes, pots, urns and for bird-bath toppers outside. Make boxwood trees, mixed greens trees and flower arrangements for indoors. Create a fresh mantle piece or table decoration…anywhere you want to celebrate the season you can do so with evergreen cuttings.

At Country Garden our custom department makes decorated and undecorated boxwood trees for the sales floors and for customers who order specific sizes and decorations. We also love making the mixed greens trees. You can find directions for creating your own here.

It’s easy and fun to make your own centerpieces as well, starting with greens and then adding flowers, candles, cones or other decorations. If you haven’t tried making them for yourself, sign up for our “Make A Christmas Centerpiece” workshop on either December 18th or 23rd. The workshops start at 1 PM and last about an hour and a half. You’ll learn how to make a one-candle centerpiece and there will be a variety of materials to choose from. Cost is $35.00 and pre-registration and payment is required since space is limited. Both classes are being taught by C.L. Fornari. Join in the fun!

Here are just three samples of a Christmas centerpiece you can create. There are other options for candle color, flowers and decorations so come and enjoy getting creative. No experience necessary!

We have an assortment of fresh greens for your projects, or you can cut your own from the shrubs and trees in your landscape. Tramping around the yard and checking out the available “materials” is part of the enjoyment when you are working with greens in floral foam.
